Space Innovation for Young Explorers
The SpaceApps Junior Challenge 2025 is a special edition of the NASA Space Apps Challenge designed specifically for participants aged 13-18. This three-day event gives young space enthusiasts the opportunity to solve real-world space challenges using NASA’s open data in a supportive, educational environment. The event is designed to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators while making space exploration accessible to youth.
The junior hackathon features simplified challenges across several themes tailored for young participants:
Explore climate data, natural disasters, or observe stars and planets using NASA’s resources. Create projects that help us understand our planet and universe better.
Create applications, games, or visualizations that help explain complex space concepts to other students. Design interactive tools that make space more accessible.
Design ideas for future missions, spacecraft, or habitats for astronauts. Think about how humans might live and work in space in the future.
Develop creative projects that combine art, storytelling, and space science to communicate space concepts to the public. Make space exciting for everyone!

Registration opens on July 17, 2025. Participation is free and open to all students aged 13-18. Space is limited to 80 participants, so early registration is encouraged. Students can register individually or in teams of 3-4 members. Individual participants will be helped to find teams during the first day of the event. Parental consent forms will be required for all participants.
Teams benefit from diverse skills - programming, engineering, design, business development, and domain knowledge in space-related fields are all valuable. No specific space expertise is required - mentors will provide guidance and resources.
Bring your laptop, relevant software tools, and any hardware components you may need for prototyping. Basic electronic components and 3D printing facilities will be available on-site.
No, participation is free for all students. This includes meals, materials, and access to all resources during the event.
Yes, we will provide access to NASA’s datasets, space-related APIs, and specialized software tools in a simplified format suitable for teenage participants.
Accommodation is not included. Parents/guardians are responsible for transportation to and from the venue each day.
